HarrysTravels is a personal website where you'll find a collection of my experiences from travels to far flung parts of the world. Over time the site will develop to includes travel advice, stories and photos gathered along the way. In addition to these, I'll also be posting a series of photography articles.
The advice is based on my own experiences traveling and in some cases shares solutions to problems that I have encountered along the way. If you have any thoughts or ideas about any of this material, please feel free to contact me.
After several long overseas trips, I’ve set off to face the world again on another global adventure. The difference this time is that I’ll be funding the trip entirely from micro-stock earnings. The first part of the journey will go through Asia - Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and Taiwan before fying to Canada as a launching pad to the Americas. Thereafter I’ll head to South America for around a year before going all the way north again through central America, the US and Canada before moving across to Europe in early 2010. If by this stage I'm still functioning, the trip will continue down into Africa and eventually home via the silk road through central Asia. Having said that I’ll be keeping my itinerary flexible and traveling overland flights wherever possible, so plans are always subject to change. Click on the above links for pages specific to individual continents. I haven't been to North or South America yet, so for the time being you won't find much there. Click on the heading to follow the journey! Travel photographyPhotography is a hobby that I enjoy. Happily it fits in very well with travel. Some of my photos are intended to record a special place, some to provide a window to a different way of life, and occasionally some make a political or social statement.Naturally my portfolio contains a large variety of travel type photos. Often these are of interesting or famous places recorded in the best light. While many of these photos provide a beautiful impression of a place, they are actually a poor substitute for experiencing these places in all dimensions and in person. Reality is both better and worse than the best photograph. While you miss the beggars, the sometimes unsavory smells and the often mind-numbing sounds, you also miss the real spectacle and wonders. My hope is that my images serve as an entree to travels of your own and don't make up the main course. The photography link will take you to my page which contains some photography advice, details about my photography equipment and links to my portfolio of photos that are available for license What to PackPlanning a long term travel is a little different to going away for a holiday. Working out what you need and don't need is one of the challenges. If you pack unnecessary items, you'll end up having to send them back home, or lugging them half way around the world. Click on the heading for a list of some of the things I take along. |
